Winter is the worst season for your skin as it suffers more dehydration, flaking and itchiness. We asked Dr. Rinky Kapoor (Consultant Dermatologist, S.L Raheja Hospital, Mumbai), to give us few tips on how to keep your skin glowing and radiant this winter. And here’s what you need to do:
On the basis of your skin type, you should adopt a skincare regime that will keep your skin healthy and beautiful.
Cleansers with Aloe Vera
Use a rich and creamy cleanser to prevent moisture loss. Cleansers and skin care products with Aloe Vera gel are ideal, since Aloe Vera is soothing and keeps the skin healthy. While the anti-oxidant property will speed up the cell-renewal process.
Moisturise!
During winter, the outer layer of skin becomes very dry and irrespective of your skin type, you must moisturise. Even if you have oily skin, use a light moisturiser in winters.
Use a sunscreen
People like to enjoy the sun in the winter but even the slightest sun exposure can cause serious damage and fast-track the ageing process. Use a sunscreen 15 minutes before going out, so it absorbs better. Reapply every 2-3 hours to ensure optimal sun protection.
Skin nourishment
For normal to dry skin, nourish the skin every night. Apply a rich anti-ageing cream mixed with little water and massage it on the skin. Ensure that the cream contains a generous quantity of Vitamin E.
For very dry skin:
* If your skin is very flaky and taut, avoid using soaps. Instead use a light body wash or a baby wash which is mild.
* Apply generous amount of coconut oil or baby oil before bathing to prevent dryness.
* Use a rich body lotion after shower on still-damp skin. This will help to seal in the moisture better.
* Treat your feet with extra care. Soak them in warm water and use a gentle scrub to get rid of dry skin cells. Massage them with a cream and wear socks through the night, to seal the moisture. Follow this routine at least once a week.
* Adopt a similar routine to keep your hands moisturised and soft. Use a hand cream every time you’ve washed them with a soap or used a detergent.
