Switzerland Wants You To Visit In Autumn And Winter:
We’ve picked three really cool experiences to put on your itinerary in Switzerland this Autumn and Winter. All of us would like to be sustainable travellers, to have the assurance that our explorations of the world are causing no damage to the planet. One of the biggest causes of such impact is over tourism – when too many visitors strain a popular destination by the sheer weight of their numbers on its limited resources.
For example, in Zurich (above), visitors between October and December can enjoy the changing colours and cool temperatures as well as the many Christmas markets.
Lucerne (above) comes into its own in a different way in winter with Christmas markets, music festivals, the famous LiLu Light Festival and, this year, a new ice rink. Interlaken, known as the adventure capital of Europe, has always been a year-round destination with paragliding, kayak tours, canyoning and parachuting on the menu – and all this apart from the opportunities to visit Jungfraujoch – the Top of Europe and Grindelwald-First – the Top of Adventure.
Winter Bathing With A Difference: The Hot Tug (main image) is half boat, half bathtub, and it glides across Lake Brienz while you sit in bubbling hot water as snowflakes melt on your forehead. The hot tub takes up to six people, and chugs around the lake as you enjoy the warmth and the views of the snow-covered mountain forests through the 90-minute trip.
